/Programs http://www.mdc.mennonite.net/Programs en-us Sun, 22 Nov 2009 07:59:36 GMT Caravel CMS RSS App Merimna Homes http://www.mdc.mennonite.net/Programs:CB2=MerimnaHomes.html@CB2 Merimna Homes is a year round program that provides year round housing and attendant care for adults with a developmental disability.  It is private pay as opposed to state funded.  Individuals cover most of the fees through a combination of social security income, wages from employment, and housing grants.  Merimna Homes is oriented to individuals with a moderate level of disability who can be on their own for portions of the day.  All homes have staff support for designated periods of the day, and some have staff who live in the home along with residents.  Each resident has a private bedroom but shares all other living space with up to four other adults.  Along with staff time the fees cover rent, utilities, food, transportation to group activities, and daily living supplies such as toiletries.

In respite care we provide temporary supervision for disabled individuals, giving the primary caregiver (usually the family) a rest or “respite” from the caregiving duties.  The amount of respite care can vary from a few hours to a few days.  It can be provided in the individual’s home or at our guest house located in the country one mile east of Middlebury, Indiana.  Respite care can include taking the individual to various community activities.

In day services we provide attendant care to individuals which is very similar to respite care.  The difference is that day services do not include overnight coverage, and the purpose is to support and improve the individual’s quality of life, not to give a break to the primary caregiver.

 Tue, 21 Nov 2006 14:25:17 GMT Project Promise http://www.mdc.mennonite.net/Programs:CB2=ProjectPromise.html@CB2 Project Promise is a program to meet the spiritual and social needs of adults with a developmental disability.  It meets twice a month on Saturday afternoons in Goshen.  There are no fees for this program, and it is staffed entirely by volunteers.  Activities include worship services, craft times, rehearsing and performing Biblical dramas, and taking part in fund raising events for Project Promise expenses.  Every September there is also an annual week-end retreat at a local church camp.  There is a modest fee for attending the retreat. Tue, 21 Nov 2006 14:32:10 GMT Goldenrod Gardens http://www.mdc.mennonite.net/Programs:CB2=Goldenrod Gardens.html@CB2 Goldenrod Gardens is a program of MDC Goldenrod.  There are several clients and friends that volunteer their time each week to plant, weed, and harvest the produce.  This is then sold at the MiIl Race Center Farmers Market, 212 West Washington St., Goshen, Indiana. 

A portion of the profits goes to benefit persons with developmental disabilities living in Elkhart and surrounding counties.  The Greenhouse is located at the MDC Goldenrod Community (corner of county roads 16 and 43, 1.5 miles east of MIddlebury, Indiana.)
