Mission Statement

MDC Goldenrod believes that because all persons are created in God’s image, every human life has equal value. Acting on this, MDC Goldenrod, as a ministry of Anabaptist and other participating congregations, recognizes the gifts of individuals with disabilities. MDC Goldenrod seeks to do this in ways that promote development of individuals, strengthen the family, and encourage continued congregational involvement.

Remind Me Why I Work Here, Again?!?

This was written by Hannah West, Residential Coordinator at MDC Goldenrod for a weekly Office Staff Meeting.  It says so well, why we are involved in this ministry.

Stress levels vary from day to day, week to week, and can reach extreme levels depending on who you ask.  The last few weeks I and, of course, a number of other individuals reached, what could possibly be considered, a high level.  We were honored with that wonderful feeling of being overwhelmed or asking ourselves, "Is this ever going to get easier?".  We had times of fighting back the urge to scream, to pull our hair out, and even, for some of us, to hold back tears.  I can't speak for others, but I can speak for myself.  It left me with the question; "Why do I work here?"!?

During those few weeks of stress, for one reason or another, I found myself stopping in at the hones of the individuals we serve.  I would stop in to take care of a couple of things on my way out of the office.  I would also be visited in the office by them and sometimes, on my way out the door to head home, they would stop to talk to me.  They would tell me about things that they were excited about, things that they needed or wanted, arguments they were having, and even just to sya "hi" and "I love you".  It was during those little, but important, moments that I was reminded why I work here.  I saw the smilies, heard the laughter, saw the tears.   It was then that realized that no matter how much stress I may feel, or what amount of work needs to be done, it's all worth it.  Knowing that I can help them have a meaningful life, help them reach their goals, and to put smiles on their faces.  I can only pray that we all are as passionate, loving and gracious as Jesus is with us.  I also pray that we can all truly remember why we work here and truly have a humble heart.  We are all in this together.   After all, if we don't help and serve them, who will?

May the Lord continue to bless this ministry and those who serve in it and may he grant us peace of mind and the strength to do His work and will.
